Depending on you arrival time, you will have a short walking introduction to the area. Before the night falls we will go for a welcome dinner at a modern restaurant tuned with the art and design trends of the zone and with a high quality gastronomy with “provenza” influence.
Day 2 (B,L,D)
Know the events of the past that paved the way Colombia is in the present. A Colombian historian will guide you through the city telling us about those events that were and are part of Colombian armed conflict to give us a clear view of what is going on in our society. We will make a stop at the House of Memory Museum where its expositions become a tool for understanding the dimensions of the socio-economic armed conflict and its consequences and invite us to overcome the armed conflict and all kind of violence expressions in Medellin, Antioquia and the Country. To complement this experience we will visit the slums, an area once considered as the most dangerous neighborhood of Medellin but now it’s still poor, but lively neighborhood with beautiful street art and boiling social and cultural innovation. We will share lunch with the people from the 13th Slum or “Comuna 13” and listen to their life testimonies and how this conflict has affected them. We will get back to the hotel and refresh ourselves for our dinner event.
Day 3 (B,L)
Today we will explore the main highlights of this cosmopolitan city starting at Plaza Botero, right in the center of Medellin, where we will discover the unique style of Fernando Botero, Colombia´s famous artist. Trade the rush of the city for a pleasant scene at the town of Guatape located 83 km east of Medellin on the shores of an artificial lake, this small town is famous for its traditional houses with colorful walls turned into artwork. However, before reaching our destination, we will make a stop at El Peñol Rock also known as “El Peñol de Guatape” for a stunning view of the Guatape dam from over a rock 200 meters high. A brick staircase will take us to the top of the rock where we will be able to see the lake amid numerous green small islands. Lunch will be ready for us at a grill restaurant with view over the lake. We will get back to the hotel in Medellin and refresh ourselves for our dinner event.
Day 5 (B,L)
We will hit the road at about 09:00am to get to Jardín, a town 130km south of Medellin, right in time for lunch. Today’s restaurant choice is more than a place to seat and eat as the restaurant also serves as a trout farm and a “Molienda”, a place where sugar cane its turned into a typical product from the region “Panela”. After savoring our meal, you can choose between getting the real experience of visiting a traditional coffee farm and hear about how Colombia’s finest coffee makes its way from a bean to a cup or get a little more adventurous and take an excursion to La Cueva del Esplendor, a cave with a 10 meters waterfall pouring through a large hole in the roof, a truly natural wonder. Or you can use your free time to explore the village and its surroundings by strolling down the streets to have a closer look at beautiful painted houses as well as chairs that are pieces of art with hand-painted pictures of the area on them.
