Day 1 (D)
After meeting our tour leader upon your arrival at Bogota’s international airport, we will drive you to the B3 Virrey hotel, an eclectic style boutique hotel located at the district of El Virrey an area that seems to pulse with life of its own, a stone´s throw from “Zona Rosa” where Bogotá nightlife sizzles, and neighbouring “Parque El Virrey”, one of the city’s prettiest pedestrian-friendly parks. Depending on your arrival time, you will have a short walking introduction to the area. Before the night falls, we will go for a welcome dinner at Tramonti a cottage style restaurant full of history. Located at the foothills of the Eastern hills, which are the mountain range that surrounds part of the city, this vintage restaurant offers an amazing view over the city at sunset.
Day 2 (B,L,D)
Let's start the day by visiting Monserrate Sanctuary, located at the top of the imposing Eastern hills of the city at an altitude of 3150 meters. Upon ascending to the top of the mountain on a cable car or funicular, we will reach the most notorious pilgrimage point of the city and possibly the best panoramic views of the capital.
Then we will head down to wander through the picturesque cobblestone streets of the colonial district of La Candelaria. Guided by an English-speaking expert, we will visit the Botero Museum, which holds the works of this eccentric artist who has become the icon of Colombian contemporary art and the Gold Museum, where you can find the largest collection of pre colombine gold figures and learn the best-kept secrets of our ancient cultures. We will make a stop at the city highlights like Chorro de Quevedo, Presidential Palace, Plaza de Bolivar and its Prime Cathedral. Once done, we will walk some blocks along the vibrant Carrera Séptima until reaching our restaurant choice, a large colonial house with inner patio and high sealing that serves the best Ajiaco in town. After filling tanks, we will continue on a street art walking tour, where we can appreciate pieces of different artists in alleys, colorful streets, facades of colonial houses, ancient buildings, squares, and walls. Before hopping on the bus that will take us to the dinner event at 93 Park, we will make a stop at Callejon del Embudo to sample the famous chicha.
Day 3 (B,L,D)
Time for some fresh air from the countryside. We will drive 50km north till a cute historic town Zipaquira, popular for being the home of the Salt Cathedral, categorized as a world-class Colombian wonder, a structure 180 meters underground carved inside the depths of the biggest salt rock reserve on earth. We will continue with lunch at a colonial country restaurant surrounded by a pine forest. We will now head to Villa de Leyva a small village located 130km north, that will give you the feeling of traveling back in time thanks to the way its washed façade and wooden doors residences have been preserved. Wander through its narrow cobblestone streets and Main Square and find the perfect souvenir in one of the many handicraft shops. Our final stop a hotel placed in a colonial restored house where once lived one of the heroes of Colombian Independence.
Day 4 (B,L,D)
Get ready to let your inner artisan break in for our next stop, as we will go to a pottery workshop at Raquira, a small traditional town only 23km far, and learn how to create your own handicrafts guided by a traditional master artisan. After having lunch at the craftsman house, we will return to Villa de Leyva and visit Casa Terracota the world’s biggest pottery, a space where architecture and design come together and where the architect, using all four elements, turn soil into livable space. Good luck and … practice your aim!! You will have the experience of playing Tejo a sport considered Colombia’s national game, which consist of throwing a metal puck “Tejo” along an alley of approximately 20 meters to a board covered with clay trying to impact the center of a metal ring target, this sounds normal until you add the extra ingredient… gunpowder!! It uses small exploding targets containing gunpowder placed on the edges of the metal ring where on impact with the “Tejo” explode loudly creating a festive atmosphere. After an evening full of action is time to get some rest at our selected hotel.
Day 5 (B,L,D)
We will hit the road at about 09:00am in r to get to Bogotá right in time for lunch. The restaurant selection for today is located at Usaquén, a charming old neighborhood once a small town detached from Bogotá but as the city grew it was absorbed and now is an eclectic and hip neighborhood of the city. To complement this experience, we will walk to a close-by cafe where we will have a guided taste of 3 different high quality Colombian coffee varieties and learn about what makes them unique. In the afternoon, you will go back to the hotel and recover some energy for what the night has in store. Enjoy a food tasting from a varied menu that could be categorized as signature cuisine.
