Challenge yourself on a 4-day hiking adventure through the Colombian Jungle as you trek the mythical Ciudad Perdida (Lost City) hidden in the foothill of the Sierra Nevada Mountain. Archaeologists believe it was founded around 800 AD by the Tayrona culture. Check out its plazas and more than 100 terraces carved into the hillside.
This vigorous trekking experience traverses the unspoiled terrain of the Colombian wilderness, culminating in a visit to an impressive indigenous archaeological site dating to the 9th century. Your small group tour, limited to just 11 participants, also includes a guide, campsite accommodations, entrance fees, round-trip transport from Magic Tours main office (Historical Center Santa Marta) and all the meals included as shown in the itinerary.
Explore the scenic backcountry of Colombia on a 4-day trek to Colombia’s legendary Ciudad Perdida (Lost City) hidden deep in the dense jungle. Have your own Indiana Jones-style adventure as you hike 29 miles (47 kilometers) through the beautiful hinterlands, passing through unspoiled waterfalls and rivers along the way, eventually reaching this amazing archaeological site.
Depending on the length of the trek you choose, you’ll have time to visit local indigenous villages along the way, swim in natural pools and camp each night among the lush wilderness of the Colombian Jungle. Your trip reaches its climax with the chance to explore Ciudad Perdida, admiring the sites intricate plazas and stone terraces carved into the hillside.
Day 1: Santa Marta – Mamey – 1st Camp (L, D)
Your first day of the trek begins with the morning meeting point at 8:30 am at the Magic Tours main office (in the Historical center of Santa Marta). Hop on a 4 wheel-drive vehicle and enjoy a 3-hour road trip to a small town called El Mamey, where you’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant serving typical Colombian Food.
After lunch, start a 4-hour walk to the camp, stopping along the way when your group needs to take a break. When you reach camp, have dinner and then hit the sack, resting up for your long day of trekking the next day.
Day 2: 1st Camp – Mutanzi – 3rd Camp (B, L, D)
Wake up early and eat a quick breakfast before departing around 6 am for your 2-hour trek to an indigenous village called Mutanzi. Then walk for 40 minutes from Mutanzi to the 2nd Camp where you’ll be able to enjoy a delicious lunch. Rest for a while and get ready for a 4-hour trek to the 3rd camp where you’ll have dinner after your arrival.
Day 3: 3rd Camp – Ciudad Perdida – 2nd Camp (B, L, D)
After breakfast, leave camp around 6 am for the walk to Ciudad Perdida, which you’ll reach around 7 am and enter by climbing its 1,200 stone stairs. You’ll have two hours to explore the ancient city, set in the dense jungle.
Return to the 3rd camp where you’ll have lunch and will be able to rest for a while.
In the afternoon, get ready for a 4-hour trek back to the 2nd camp, where you’ll have dinner and stay the night.
Day 4: 2nd Camp – Mamey – Santa Marta (B, L)
After breakfast, walk seven hours back to El Mamey, where you’ll have lunch again, as you did on Day 1. Your guide will then drive you back to your Santa Marta via a 4 wheel-drive vehicle.
You’ll arrive in mid-afternoon, concluding your trekking tour.
